A sheep farmer with dedication to the land and animals around him – put that together with a rich family history and architecture and a number of willing partners, and the astonishing Amakhala Game Reserve was born.
Affectionately known as Uncle Bill, William Henry Fowlds, is one of the founding members of the Amakhala Game Reserve, which began as a joint conservation venture between the landowners in the Greater Addo region of the Eastern Cape. Today, well in his 80s, he lives in the reserve at the Leeuwenbosch Country House – which is also his family home – with his wife Rose, and they are as hands-on as they ever were.
